Apple Watch is a line of smartwatches designed, developed, marketed and sold by Apple Inc. It incorporates fitness tracking and health-oriented capabilities with integration with iOS and other Apple products and services.
Why only Apple Devices?
The consistency of the underlying software, named iOS, allows for one application to operate on all devices. In the Android world, this is not true as Android has currently 9 supported versions (source) which means an app may or may not run on all phones. This, plus the amount of maintenance on that many versions, is one reason we DO NOT do Android development.
In November of 2018, Apple stopped reporting sales numbers for the iPhone after selling 2.2 billion devices worldwide. The interesting statistic is that Apple gained over 80% of revenue in the smartphone market demonstrating that other manufacturers lost money each time they sold a phone. (source). Apple reported over $50 billion in app revenue last year (Google Play was half). Considering that Apple’s share is 30% of the total price, that would place the total revenue of the iPhone app market at $166 billion.
